1986 Cavalier convertible

MK2 cavalier accessories

I bought this 1986 cavalier convertible from ebay in a job lot with a 1993 cavalier 4x4 and a load of vauxhall parts but enough about that lot this page is about cavalier convertible. The MK2 cavalier convertible is not the most desirable and not really a true classic(well not yet anyway) but these are becoming a bit rare now. When the car arrived it was a non runner, the front brakes where seized on it had been bumped slightly at the rear and the rear lower quarter panels where rotten. The good thing was that the roof was in mint condition and the interior was tidy it also had four like new tyres and was complete. The car is automatic which is not to everyones taste but apart from being a little heavier on fuel still pleasurable drive.

As you can see it was not in the cleanest of conditions as it had been parked up for a while. I started with getting car running and after swopping over most of the parts on the engine it turned out to be the ecu that was faulty as i got loads of spares with car i had a spare one to swop which was handy. Then i attacked the front brakes and anyone who has anything to do with 80,s vauxhall brake calipers will know that the sliders are a common problem so a strip down clean up and greasing they where spot on i stripped the rear brake drums off to find that the rears had fairly recently been replaced with new cables, shoes, wheel cylinders and drums which was handy.

As we can see i needed to do some welding the rear quarter panels (typical 1986 cavalier convertible area,s) where shot so out with the airsaw and cut off grinder and cut out all the rot and made some new panels and welded them in then skimmed over and painted the rear quarters.

Well i forgot about updating how the cavvy turned so here's some pics.

The panels i have made here are not perfect matches but close enough as i will need to skim them with filler any way. So it will be solid with all the rot gone.

All welded up and solid looks pretty neat just skim over with filler and paint no one will ever no.
