Astra van project

I know a mk2 astra van project is hardly a real classic but a lot of the 80s cars are becoming very collectable as retro classics (When was the last time you seen a mk2 van). I also had an van a few years ago all lowered and running the 8v 130bhp engine and 16v gearbox. Anyway enough of the memories. This van restoration well i bought it because i have a lot of parts kicking around that i picked up in a job lot of cars and parts so thought sod it a good excuse to get one. I bought the van on impulse and pretty much blind from pics on ebay and somebody picked it up for me so didnt see it until it arrived and what i have i done to myself. There doesnt seem to be a decent panel on the van but i expected it to be rough (kinda hoped it would be a bit better) but anyway i took it and parked it in my friends garden for the forseeable future (cheers phil). So we decided make a little start on it at phils and removed inner rear panels from sides to find that some one decided it would be agood idea to fill in all the inner rear quarter panels with expanding foam (wasnt happy). So phil set about it and got it out (cheers again mate).

As you can see not pretty. I got it down to my house and lifted the carpets and seats out and found a lot more to go at everywhere i look their are holes and some in awkward areas. It's been a while since i updated this page and i have had the van on the road for a year since i needed some transport. So i got it over to garage and set about it and spent a solid week welding it up and ran it looking rough as hell.

I,ve run van for a year now and have another van to run so astra van project is off road again ready for me to do some more work on it i,ve got mk1 astra gte engine to fit that has had the cam reground to give higher lift and a vernier pulley fit and set up. Four branch exhaust the rest of the exhaust will be custom made by myself. The engine will be coupled up to a 16v astra gte gearbox with the tall first and second gears.
